Hugvie: The Squishy, Huggable Future of Telepresence Is Here - weaverabsetiley

You might think the future of realistic telepresence will come in the form of realistic 3D graphics or a cold metal automaton incarnation.

Japanese robot designer and Osaka University professor Hiroshi Ishiguro disagrees. Atomic number 2 thinks that earphone calls demand more hugging, so he created the Hugvie, a rich pillow in the mould of a monaural-legged Teletubby that you can embrace piece you'Re talking to individual over the phone.

Here's how it works: You place your headphone into a pocket inside the head area of the Hugvie and and then you…hug the robot as you talk. The Hugvie comes furnished with with a micro-controller and cardinal vibrating discs that simulate the caller's heartbeat depending on the shade of their voice.

The idea is that the Hugvie can simulate the emotions and intimacy of speech someone in person–uh, that is if you have conversations while you'Ra hugging someone. You bum actually steal the Hugvie for approximately $50 (3,990 Japanese Yen) from Vstone, and it's currently on video display at the Vstone Robot Center in Japanese capital.

Ishiguro, who as wel formed the Telenoid Robot and the Geminoid humanoid bots, says that he wants to further develop the Hugive to wealthy person an internal frame, more moving discs, and sensors. Eventually Ishiguro wants robots that lavatory transportation your hug to the other person's robot much like another certain petting machine.
